Photography Social Issues Scholarship

Photographers can change the world!
Their art form has the power to document, inform, educate, and inspire positive social change.

Each recipient of this scholarship exemplifies a special dedication to making the world a better place through photography.

Scholarship students complete the OCC course Analysis of Social Problems (Sociology 185). This course can become the foundation for each student's academic understanding of problems that exist in society. These problems are explored through major sociological categories such as poverty, violence, health, racism, education, gender discrimination, and environment.

This creative, educational experience will culminate in a photography project based on a social problem covered in the course. Photographs from this project will be displayed at the OCC Art Center as well as this Internet site.
